WEST POINT—Cadets-in-training from around the world will gather at the U.S. Military Academy next week for the reception for the class of 2015. The reception is scheduled for Monday, after which they will begin their basic training.
The class consists of about 1,250 candidates, including residents of every state, 14 from around the world, 21 combat veterans and more than 340 minorities. Seventeen percent of the class is female; there are 132 African-Americans, 121 Hispanic-Americans, 76 Asian Americans and 12 Native Americans.
Candidates were chosen based on their performance in academics, leadership and athletics, Col. Deborah McDonald, director of admissions, said in a press release.
