Professional Profile

I have dedicated my career to aiding communities through access to information and learning opportunities, focusing on community development and on supporting the voices of marginalized groups and individuals.

Libraries & academia:
I am currently the Evening and Weekend Circulation Supervisor at the Sojourner Truth Library at the State University of New York at New Paltz. I also manage @SUNYNPLIBRARY on social media, supporting library service marketing and patron outreach.  In the past year, I designed the first ever Sojourner Truth Library social media marketing/PR plan and student-centered library social media internship. This project has afforded me the pleasure of working in a vibrant intellectual environment, collaborating with people from many walks of life to study the ways in which libraries can utilize social media to increase awareness and use of library and community resources.

As an advocate for lifelong learning, my own education is continuous. After attaining my bachelor’s degrees in journalism and adolescence education from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2013, I chose to pursue my graduate education at the University at Albany. I am currently working toward a master’s degree in information science. Recently, I was awarded a 2017 Dewey Scholarship through the New York State Library Association. In addition to my formal education, I enjoy reading about such topics as: management methods, instructional design, gender studies, women’s history, health/medicine, science, and spirituality/mindfulness.

Freelancing as a writer since 2011, I have contributed pieces to VISITvortex, WeddingVortex, The Watershed PostThe Journal NewsThe Little RebellionThe New Paltz Oracle, and The Outlook Student Press. Previously, I held a position as the editor of VISITvortex and WeddingVortex. My news and feature writing often focuses on local events and community concerns.

In my free time:
I enjoy hiking the many beautiful trails in the Hudson Valley, camping, traveling, reading in diverse genres, watching documentaries, advocating/fundraising for ovarian cancer research and awareness, snuggling my two furry feline companions, and spending time with my loved ones.
